thistles

[edit]

hi, why did you add Category:Flags with thistles to Flag of the United States Department of Education.svg? thx --Mrmw (talk) 14:08, 8 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

At the base of the tree is a thistle, no? —Justin (koavf)TCM 16:44, 8 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thistles are a plant and not a tree, or am I wrong in that assumption?
The leaves of the tree look like oak leaves — if it’s an oak, then category Category:Flags with oak trees should be added.
at the moment Category:Trees on flags of the United States is at the image
what abaout Category:Oaks on flags of the United States? in this case Category:Trees on flags of the United States should be removed — what do you think? --Mrmw (talk) 17:51, 8 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I certainly have no objections and God knows that I'm fallible. What do you think is the yellow thing at the bottom of the tree? I thought it was a separate plant that is a thistle, not a part of the tree itself.
"what abaout Category:Oaks on flags of the United States? in this case Category:Trees on flags of the United States should be removed — what do you think?" Yes, for sure. —Justin (koavf)TCM 21:36, 8 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
this is an acorn Category:Acorns in heraldry (Category:Acorns) – I’m surprised you’re still guessing after my hint that the tree is an oak – your first answer referred to the tree; at first, you thought the tree was a thistle, and now you see a thistle in the picture of the acorn? please add the correct categories and remove the wrong ones, thanks --Mrmw (talk) 05:50, 9 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I in no way thought that the tree itself was a thistle. Please don't make up stuff. —Justin (koavf)TCM 05:52, 9 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
my mistake, sorry - i am no native speaker
I understood 'at the base of' in the sense of 'based on' --Mrmw (talk) 08:16, 9 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ah, no "at the base of" means "at the bottom, lying on the ground". As you can see, "base" has many meanings in English. —Justin (koavf)TCM 16:30, 9 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

The convention is that we only categorise works by language if they are not what would be expected, or in places where there are several languages. Rathfelder (talk) 09:18, 17 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Solar System delta-v map

[edit]

Can you elaborate on http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File_talk:Solar_system_delta_v_map.svg&action=edit&section=new about your addition of {{update|Quaoar Gonggong}} please? Thanks, cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 06:14, 23 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

I changed the update request. Let me know if it's still unclear. —Justin (koavf)TCM 07:14, 23 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Do you have the relevant delta-v values similar to the other dwarf planets'? cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 08:09, 23 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I do not. :/ —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:51, 23 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Koavf.

Can you color Guinea Bissau in light green in File:ECOWAS members.svg, because it has been suspended by ECOWAS?

Hello, Koavf.
I withdraw the request, because the map has been updated.

Good deal. I was going to get to it after this AWB run. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:34, 29 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Organisations

[edit]

When & where was it decided that Category:Organisations of England should be moved from a UK spelling to a US spelling? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:39, 30 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

"-zations" is used in the UK, e.g. the parent category Category:Organizations of the United Kingdom. —Justin (koavf)TCM 17:41, 30 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Very, very rarely: see wikt:organization vs. wikt:organisation. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:11, 30 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sure. All the others are consistently "-ization" and the four subnational British ones were causing a category error. There's no reason for those to be different than 200-some others of the same category tree. —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:14, 30 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Problems with your edits

Some of your "fix cat" edits that you made around 02:00 today appear to have blanked the file pages. These files are now tagged at Category:Media without a license: needs history check. Please check these files and correct the edits. Thank you. Johnj1995 (talk) 21:47, 1 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
